Since picking up a model at all will try to raise it above the highest model directly above it, not being able to gradually lower the model is not the problem here. (Which has never been implemented since the auto-raise function's introduction in June.) If you wish to move to a space underneath another space, the only option I know is to move to a space on the desired board and gradually push your piece into place with the shift key. What is currently impossible is moving to a location that is directly underneath a higher object, as that would require the ability to turn the auto-raise off. The auto-raise function that is in place makes it extremely easy to move up and down boards. I just keep the lift height at the lowest setting and switch to an overhead camera when moving the pieces. That's why I said earlier, "Moving up boards provides a little bit more challenge as you may need to move the piece laterally to free it from the bottom of the higher board." Moving the piece laterally (aka to the side) frees it from under the board. It looks to me like you are showing that the piece is below the floating board (in the space directly below the black pawn). If an opposite function to raise is implemented with a X(key)+R(aise)= Lower would do just fine and not take up keyboard space for other future controls. The raise button also works as desired most of the time at least. I feel the default lift height system works fine as is. It's near impossible to move your piece to a position below a higher level. Yes all is nice in theory, but just dl the workshop item and try it. Moving up boards provides a little bit more challenge as you may need to move the piece laterally to free it from the bottom of the higher board. When you pick up a piece and move it to the desired board, it should automatically adjust to the nearest board (plane).
